Carbon structural steel is the most used in steel, the largest number, often rolled into steel, profiles and profiles, generally do not need to be directly used by heat treatment, mainly for general structure and engineering. Since the hardening tendency of 16Mn steel is slightly larger than that of mild steel, preheating measures are needed to prevent cold cracks when welding at low temperatures (such as open air operations in winter) or on large rigid and thick structures.
Preheating temperature of 16Mn steel under different plate thickness and different ambient temperature:
Thickness: less than 16mm,
No preheating below -10℃, preheating below -10℃ 100~150℃;
Thickness: 16~24mm:
Not lower than -5℃ is not preheating, below -5℃ preheating 100~150℃;
Thickness: 25~40mm
Not lower than 0℃ no preheating, 0℃ below preheating 100~150℃;
Thickness: 40mm or more
Preheat 100~150℃.
16Mn steel manual arc welding should be selected E50 type electrode, such as alkaline electrode E5015, E5016, for not important structures, can also choose acid electrode E5003, E5001. For welding parts with small thickness and narrow groove, E4315 and E4316 welding rods can be selected.
When 16Mn steel submerged arc welding H08MnA wire with flux HJ431(open I groove butt butt) or H10Mn2 wire with flux HJ431(open groove butt butt butt), when welding thick plate deep groove weld, H08MnMoA wire with flux HJ431 should be selected.
16Mn steel is the most widely used low alloy steel in China, and 16Mn steel used for manufacturing welding structures are 16MnR and 16Mng steel.
